Brooklyn Music School - Outreach
HOW CAN BMS ENRICH YOUR ORGANIZATION? - Customized MUSIC, DANCE, AND PERFORMANCE Programs
Through BMS Outreach, we bring the quality of Brooklyn Music School's faculty, programming, and pedagogy to you. BMS Outreach is dedicated to formulating just the right educational programming in music and dance to suit the needs of your organization and your students.
As a community institution, BMS is committed to engaging with schools – public, charter, and private – after-school programs, and community centers in an effort to foster literacy and cooperation in the performing arts. BMS Outreach offers your organization an excellent way to round out your curriculum with the highest quality educational programming, at an affordable price, to provide a gateway to a life-long interest in music and the performing arts.
Our services span the borough of Brooklyn.
BMS Outreach programming serves over 5,000 children and even more parents and audiences. Our classes are taught by a faculty of 25 professional artist-educators. Our performance assemblies draw upon a network of first-class artists in New York City, presenting a range of Classical, Jazz, and World Music styles. All BMS Outreach faculty members hold professional degrees in the performing arts and/or education. All faculty members have been vetted with background checks in all 50 United States and are current in the New York Statewide Central Register Database.
BMS Outreach faculty, guest artists, and students regularly present public performances in our theatre at other public events. The programs attract a diverse audience of families and local Brooklyn residents who appreciate access to excellent professional performances at reasonable ticket prices and the friendly atmosphere of student recitals. BMS Outreach students perform mid-year and year-end recitals at the outreach school site as well. BMS Outreach students are encouraged to participate in programs at BMS, through special incentives and programming aimed at building community and diversity.
BMS Outreach curriculum has been developed in accordance with New York Department of Education (DOE) music education standards – Blueprint for the Arts. Because of the nature of BMS Outreach, our curriculum often exceeds these standards by providing more robust curricular programming than is mandated by the DOE. In conjunction with our Director of Curriculum and our Outreach Program Coordinator, we customize our services to fit the needs and demands of each school environment. We believe strongly that all students deserve access to the rich culture and understanding that music and dance education provide, regardless of their background, talents, or challenges.
We work with each school site to customize our programming to fit the needs of your community. Here are some sample programming options:
beat making and hip-hop production
recorders and harmonicas
dance: fundamentals, ballet, jazz dance, tap dance, and private instruction
BMS OUTREACH ONLINE
For all BMS Outreach program participants, we offer a partner website. This website, customized to your site, is designed for interactive enrichment, to encourage a deeper connection among students and faculty between class sessions. This website also includes video reviews of class material, short video clips for enhanced technique building, downloadable supplemental materials, ways to track student practice time, and serves as a home for student projects.
BMS Outreach educational programming creates a customized program for each of our partner schools that meets you student needs, internal resources and your budget. This can include a mix of group classes, performance ensembles, and private instruction. For schools that lack a music department, BMS Outreach offers a cost-efficient solution. But we can also work to enrich current music programs with a limited range of program offerings.
BMS programs include teaching, preparation and development, and Brooklyn Music School administrative oversight and liaison with your institution. And we can provide instruments and teaching assistants.
Finally, for institutions with very limited resources serving underprivileged audiences BMS Outreach has successfully been able to secure grant funding to help cover the costs of our programming as well.
