Gain valuable experience in performance, leadership, and education through the BMS Mentor Program
Scholarships
Brooklyn Music School provides select students with discounted or free tuition thanks to the generosity of The Pinkerton Foundation and D’Addario Foundation. With their support we are able to offer scholarships for the Theater productions as well as the BMS Mentor Program for high school students. We are grateful to the Foundations that make these scholarships possible.

BMS Mentor Program
The Mentor Program is designed for students in grades 9-12 to prepare them for a professional career in the arts. Mentors receive individualized and specialized private and ensemble instruction while gaining professional skills assisting in classrooms, volunteering at events, and performing at BMS and in the community. The Mentor Program fosters the growth and development of three main areas: education, work/study, and artistic development.
Education
Mentors will assist with classes in the Arts Reaching Youth program for students ages 5-11. After assisting and observing class management, course instruction, and concepts/repertoire, mentors will present a concept or exercise to the class at the end of each month. The class instructor will observe the presentation and provide constructive feedback.
Work/Study
Mentors will be trained to assist with various aspects of running an event. This consists of learning job duties such as Front of House, Stage Hand, and Production. Mentors will be assigned to several events each semester so they gain practical experience to supplement their training.
Artistic Development
This consists of a free weekly private lessons and a free weekly ensemble. We also provide the opportunity to participate in variety of workshops and live performance events, as well as facilitate a yearly a songwriting/recording project designed to give mentors the opportunity to gain real-world professional experience while developing their artistic voices.
