KAE SUDA

Music Therapy, Piano

Kae’s passion for music therapy comes from an idea: to be with people and share each moment in honest communications with them and help them to explore ways to enrich their lives with humanity and dignity through music and sound.

Kae believes that a person’s creativity and musicality are their best resources for building human health and growth as a whole person; emotionally, physically, psychologically, cognitively, and socially. To promote these, she uses different forms of music to understand who they are and to address their needs and goals. Through these musical activities, they build a relationship to explore and expand their inner strength and resources for personal well-being and accomplishment.

Kae studied and practiced music therapy with a focus on piano in Japan where she received her bachelor’s degree from Kunitachi College of Music. She came to New York to experience its diversity and to expand her knowledge and skills of music and music therapy. She is a Board-Certified Music Therapist and received her MA in Music Therapy from Montclair State University and completed her internship at the Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine.

Kae has experience with persons of diverse backgrounds and needs in different settings.

Through her internship, she led music therapy sessions for groups of children with asthma in public schools, patients in the oncology unit, babies and parents in the NICU, and individual music therapy sessions for adults and children. In private practice, Kae conducted group music therapy for elderly and special needs populations, as well as individual adaptive lessons.

Kae is also a piano teacher, receiving her degree in piano performance from the Mannes College of Music at The New School. Kae’s piano music philosophy is not only to cover the fundamental skills of music-making but also to explore deepening expression for her students and the way they approach the instrument.
