Derek Lewis is a Pianist and Educator from Buffalo New York.  He began playing the piano as a Freshman in High School, and fell in love with making music from that point on.  Derek enjoys playing in all styles, from Classical to Gospel, but specializes in Jazz.  He has played all over the United States, as well as in Europe, and often plays shows around NYC. Derek holds a BFA from The New School.

As an educator, Derek’s goal is to help anyone of any background or ability to discover the joy of creating music, and also believes that music has the ability to teach us how to better understand ourselves and those around us.  He is also a firm believer that each student should be guided towards what inspires them and makes them passionate, and focuses on a flexible approach to learning techniques and students being able to express themselves.
