Grant Meyer

Piano

Music is a lifelong pursuit. My primary goal as a teacher is to equip students with the skills and confidence to conquer any musical challenge.

Grant Meyer grew up in San Diego California within a family of piano players and music lovers.
He began studying piano at a young age and added the guitar and drum set in middle school.
Grant studied music at Brown University and Maastricht Conservatory as a Fulbright scholar.
Grant had his first teaching job at age 18 as a classroom SAT instructor for The Princeton
Review.

Grant has taught ever since, for Brown University, Refugee Project Maastricht, Hunter
College High School, and the Music Box School. He has been teaching at BMS since 2021.
Along with teaching music, Grant co-owns and operates a recording studio in Greenpoint, “Short
Stack NY” and has worked across a variety of genres such as R&B (Nick Hakim), Pop (Young
Miko), and Indie (Melt). Grant’s creative work as a producer and keyboardist has been written
about in Pitchfork, the New York Times, and NPR.

As a teacher, Grant aims to work with students’ intrinsic motivation. He regularly makes new
teaching materials to follow his students interests and has collected these documents into
teaching books for Piano, Guitar, Drums, and Jazz improvisation. Everyone’s musical journey is
unique, but with a combination of structure, consistency, and curiosity anyone can achieve their
musical goals.
