Edgar Donati
Violin
Born in South Africa to French and Spanish parents, violinist Edgar Donati embodies a truly cosmopolitan spirit. Fluent in three languages and shaped by life across multiple countries, he has developed a distinctive artistic voice grounded in a rich tapestry of cultural influences.
Edgar began violin studies at the age of five with Robert Papavrami and Viollça Agolli, quickly gaining recognition by winning first prizes at both the Flame Competition and the Vatelot Violin Competition in Paris. His pursuit of excellence took him to Serbia, where he studied with Biljana Jaksić and earned top honors at the International Petar Konjović Competition and the Young Artists Podium. Soon after, he made his solo debut with the Serbian Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Edgar maintains an active international performance schedule. He has given solo recitals at Belgrade’s Kolarac Concert Hall and the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU), and performs regularly across the United States, Canada, and France. As a member of the Kodak Quartet, he has appeared on KING FM’s Classical Northwest and NPR’s Live Sessions, with performances in renowned venues including Carnegie Hall (New York) and the Goetheanum (Basel).
Edgar’s training spans some of the world’s most prestigious institutions. He studied at the Conservatoire National Régional de Paris with Larissa Kolos before earning both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music under Marcelle Mallette and Axel Strauss. He also holds a Performer Diploma from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where he studied with Mauricio Fuks. Edgar has worked closely with leading pedagogues including Alexandre Brussilovski, Vladimir Landsman, Dejan Bogdanovic, Yuri Volguine, Boris Kuschnir, Zakhar Bron and Lucie Robert
