Bec Laughton

Program Associate and Mentor Director

Hailing from sunshiney Brisbane, Australia, Bec has worked in the music industry globally for over 20 years. From touring the world as a performing artist playing festivals such as South by Southwest, TV shows such as Dancing With The Stars and songwriting worldwide with publishers such as Universal Music and Sony ATV to teaching vocals, drums, piano, dance and running her own youth theater company.

As a young teenager she started singing for commercials, recording original music and touring as a lead in musicals such as The Class of '69, The Wiz and Little Shop of Horrors. After graduating from a performing arts high school she completed her Bachelor of Music Studies at the prestigious Queensland Conservatorium of Music majoring in Jazz & Contemporary Voice, while vocal coaching and running her own youth theater company, BLT Youth Theater.

Soon after completing her degree the young songstress worked full-time as a touring/recording artist and traveling the world. Supporting artists such as D’Angelo, Maxwell, Common, Mos Def and Aloe Blacc, Bec was putting Australia on the map for alternative pop/R&B. Her knack for penning a pop hook put many songwriting awards to her name including the International Songwriting Award, NZ On Air, BOQ People’s Choice Awards, Lord Mayor’s Young & Emerging Artists Fellowship, Queensland Music Awards, Independent Music Awards and many more.

Signing her first label deal in 2017 and transforming into the artist ‘RIVAH’, Bec was soon featured in New Music Friday UK, Best of the Week for Pop Music in France, Australia and Switzerland on Apple Music, the Weekly One feature on Amazon Music and featured in ‘New Names’ on BBC Radio One among many other things. With songs featuring on television shows from Australia to France she then made the leap stateside to move to big ole New York City. Playing iconic venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, SOB’s, Webster Music Hall and Music Hall of Williamsburg, Bec’s favorite place to sing has always been in church.

Since the pandemic Bec has enjoyed hanging up her touring boots and investing into the next generation of music makers through the iconic Brooklyn Music School as Mentor Director and Programming Associate. Her dream is to continue creating while leading others to find their voice and know their worth on and off the stage.
