adult vocal jazz ensemble

Tuesdays 6:30-7:30pm, 9/9/2025 - 1/27/2026

This vocal jazz ensemble is open to singers of all experience levels and abilities! Join us for weekly rehearsals that will cover concepts including healthy vocal technique, ear training, style, and the importance of rhythm, intonation, tone, blend, and balance within an a contemporary vocal ensemble. This class will use jazz, popular, and contemporary repertoire to explore these topics, and will culminate in a final performance!

Tuesdays 7-8:30pm, 9/9/2025 - 1/27/2026

Directed by professional NYC jazz musicians, Adult Jazz Band focuses on building vocabulary for improvisation, developing a deeper understanding of harmonic devices, increasing jazz standard repertoire, and learning to actively participate in a small jazz ensemble. This ensemble will also have frequent performance opportunities at the Brooklyn Music School Theater and at public events such as the Beer & Beats Festival, allowing participants to gain invaluable performing experience and build confidence!

Thursday night adult jazz ensemble

thursday 6:30 -8pm, 9/4/2025 - 6/18/2026

adult chamber ensemble

Tuesdays 6:30pm - 8pm, 9/9/2025 - 6/16/2026

Brooklyn Music School’s Adult Chamber Ensembles allow playing in a small group setting consisting of various combinations of instruments (including piano, woodwinds, and strings). Working with a professional teaching artist, students have the unique opportunity to develop and improve their current skills and technique, gain more ensemble playing experience, and expand their knowledge of chamber music repertoire. Pre-formed ensembles are also welcome!

Funk fusion

thursdays 6:30pm - 8pm, 9/4/2025 - 6/18/2026

The Adult Funk/Fusion Band is a great opportunity to explore the intersection of Jazz, Funk, and Rock ‘n’ Roll! Led by professional jazz musicians, students in this class will use the music of artists such as Weather Report and Herbie Hancock to develop interactive skills between the soloist and the rhythm section. Participants will also expand their knowledge of the harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic components of this groove-based style. In a dynamic and engaging environment, students will learn classic instrumental parts and how to improvise in this style-specific genre. The ensemble will also provide the invaluable opportunity to perform at BMS events such as the Beer & Beats Festival!
