Summer Institute (Ages 5 - 8)

The BMS Summer Music & Dance Institute provides children ages 5 - 8 with a broad introduction to music and dance through affordable and creative summer programming. BMS' six week program is packed with a variety of classes such as Piano & Musicianship, Dance, World Percussion, Acting, and more! The Institute is from 9 AM - 3:30 PM with an extended day option (6 pm).

The schedule is organized in three 2-week sessions. For the best experience we recommend students do the full two-week sessions that include a Friday field trip the first week, and a showcase performance the second week in our historic Playhouse Theater. We also offer families the option of signing up for single week sessions as your scheduling allows.

The themes for our sessions are as follows:

Session 1 (July 6th - 17th) - Superheroes

Session 2 (July 20th - 31st) - Fantasy & Sci Fi

Session 3 (August 3rd - 14th) - Cartoons & Videogames

A Day at Camp…

Our Summer Institute takes place on weekdays from 9:00am - 3:30pm with an Extended Day option (pickup at 6pm). The drop off window is between 8:00 - 9:00am and instruction begins promptly at 9:15am.  The day consists of four arts classes with an optional fifth class during Extended Day.  There is snack time and lunch time (students need to bring their own food), park time (weather permissing) and students will also have the opportunity to perform in our historic Playhouse!

Tuition, Fees, and Registration

  • Tuition for each week is $725.

  • Extended Day is $300 per week.  Students must enroll in the full week.  We do not offer prorated tuition for missed days.

  • Late Fee for Regular Day

    • $20 if students are not picked up by 4:00pm

  • Late Fee for Extended Day

    • $20 if not picked up by 6:15pm.  Every additional 5 minutes will result in a $5 charge.

  • All students must have a completed health form and field trip permission slips in order to participate.

The Fine Print

  • Camp tuition can be pain in full or via a payment plan. The payment plan requires a 30% deposit with the remainder to be paid on the first of the month (July and/or August, respective to camp enrollment)

  • There is a 30% non-refundable deposit to hold your spot in summer camp.

FAQs

  • Children ages 5-8 can register. For children ages 9-12 please register for Summer Intensives. For children ages 13 - 17 please register in our Teen Week: Battle of the Bands

  • Drop off is between 8:00am - 9:00am

  • No, you do not have to register for every week. You may select the weeks you would like to register for, although for the best experience possible we recommend students sign up for the two-week sessions outlined above.

  • No, our curriculum is organized so that any students registered to begin in the middle of summer will have a smooth transition. All classes are introductory and classes will change from session to session. For example, hip hop might change to Latin dance from Session One to Session Two. For the best experience possible, we recommend that students sign up for a full two-week session.

  • Comfortable clothing, water bottle, packed lunch and snacks, a backpack, and a great attitude! For more details please refer to our Summer Parent Handbook.

  • Yes! The request must be mutual and emailed to Fatima Bawah at fbawah@brooklynmusicschool.org. We will do our best to accommodate requests but please note that some requests may not be granted due to group size limitations.

  • No, students are not required to bring their own instruments. We supply instruments for students to use while in class.

  • Lunch and snacks will NOT be provided. Please pack a daily lunch and snack for your child.

  • Every classroom will be equipped with air conditioning.
