The Brooklyn Music School Code of Ethics
for Members of the Board of Trustees and Administrators


Goal of the CodE

To establish a set of principles and practices that will set parameters and provide guidance and direction for conduct and decision-making by The Brooklyn Music School Board of Trustees and Administrators. 

CodE

Members of the Board of Trustees and Administrators of The Brooklyn Music School are committed to observing and promoting the highest standards of ethical conduct in the performance of their responsibilities to The Brooklyn Music School. Board members and Administrators pledge to accept this code as a minimum guideline for ethical conduct and shall:

Personal and Professional Integrity

o   Act with honesty, integrity and openness whenever they represent the organization.  

o    Refrain from any illegal, dishonest, or unethical conduct.

o   Comply with all applicable laws and regulations and hold accountable other board members, management, and employees to conduct business in accordance with the letter and spirit of all relevant laws.

Mission

o   Pledge loyalty to the mission and purpose of The Brooklyn Music School. 

o   The mission is responsive to the constituency and communities served by The Brooklyn Music School and of value to the society at large.

Accountability

o   Faithfully abide by the Articles of Incorporation, by-laws and policies of Brooklyn Music School.

o   Exercise reasonable care, good faith and due diligence in organizational affairs.

o   Fully disclose, at the earliest opportunity, information that may result in a perceived or actual conflict of interest.

o   Fully disclose, at the earliest opportunity, information of fact that would have significance in board decision-making.

o   Remain accountable for prudent fiscal management to the board and where applicable, to government and funding bodies.

Professional Excellence

o   Maintain a professional level of courtesy, respect, and objectivity in all The Brooklyn Music School Activities.

o   Strive to uphold those practices and assist other The Brooklyn Music School members of the board and administrators in upholding the highest standards of conduct.                               

Personal GaiN

o   Exercise the powers invested for the good of all members of the organization rather than for his or her personal benefit.

Equal OpportunitY

o   Ensure the right of all constituents of The Brooklyn Music School to appropriate and effective services without discrimination on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, national origin, race, religion, age, political affiliation or disability and in accordance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Confidential Information

o   Respect the confidentiality of sensitive information known due to service with the Brooklyn Music School. 

Collaboration and Cooperation

o   Respect the diversity of opinions as expressed or acted upon by The Brooklyn Music School board, committees and community, and formally register dissent as appropriate.

o   Promote collaboration, cooperation, and partnership between and within the segments of The Brooklyn Music School community.

Removal and/or Discharge

A knowing violation of this Code shall be grounds for removal from the Board of Trustees or discharge from employment at The Brooklyn Music School.
