Summer Intensives (Ages 9 - 12)

We are excited to offer several intensive music and dance courses that give students ages 9 - 12 the opportunity to delve deeply into one specific area of the arts. We offer up to six weeks of immersive programming in Dance, Music Production & Songwriting, Orchestra, Jazz, Musical Theatre, and Rock Band. These courses are tailored specifically to engage older, more experienced students. The Intensives are from 9am - 3:30pm with an Extended Day option (6pm).  This enriching experience for Brooklyn kids is designed so that families can choose one week or all six weeks to accommodate Summer travel plans.

A Day at Camp…

Our Summer Intensives take place on weekdays from 9:00am - 3:30pm with an Extended Day option (pickup at 6pm). The drop off window is between 8:00 - 9:00am and instruction begins promptly at 9:15am.  The day consists of four periods focusing on their area of the arts, with an optional fifth class during Extended Day.   These periods will consist of rehearsal time, skill building, and the introduction of more advanced concepts.  There is snack time and lunch time (students need to bring their own food), and students will also have the opportunity to play at the local park (weather permitting).  See a sample schedule of the day below!

NEW Two-Week Format!

We have divided the Summer into 3 two-week sessions! Programming will alternate from session to session;  for example, if the students have Piano in Session One, they may switch to Loog Guitar in Session Two.  This allows students to get a broad overview of the arts so they can hone in on their talents and passion!

On the first Friday of each session, students will have the opportunity to go on field trips to places such as the American Museum of Natural History, the New York Transit Museum, and more!  On the second Friday of each session, students will showcase what they’ve learned in classes in a performance onstage at the BMS Playhouse!

To get the most out of this experience we recommend that students sign up for the two-week sessions so they will end their experience with an onstage performance.

If you have questions about which Intensive is right for your child please reach out to Sherrine Mostin at smostin@brooklynmusicschool.org.
