This course is based on the development of hip hop culture from the 1970s to the present. It explores the history of how the party dances of each decade evolved. This course will also include the basics of street dance forms that have highly influenced the hip hop culture such as breaking and house. Class will begin with a set warm up based on the dance form that is being focused on. It will include stretching and other exercises that will condition them to go across the floor. Students will then learn a combination and depending on the progression of the class, they will be allowed to create in groups. Toward the end of the semester class will be devoted to practicing for the show. Children are drawn to the latest moves they see on TV and songs they hear on the radio not realizing that a lot of what they see and hear is influenced by hip hop.  It is important that they understand this significance.
