Strings Chair, Strings Instructor

The thing I am most interested in cultivating in young musicians, besides joy and confidence, is emotional and social intelligence. I see music as a terrific tool towards that end both one-on-one and in ensemble settings.

Seth began his musical studies in his elementary school orchestra in Odessa TX playing his first cello, and by the time he graduated high school he was playing violin and viola as well.

While a student, he began developing a strong interest in music composition which eventually took him to the University of Texas at Austin where he studied cello and string pedagogy with Phyllis Young and composition with Kevin Puts.  While there, he also taught classes in music theory, composition, bass ensemble and conducted student orchestras as part of the University of Texas String Project.

Following his university studies, Seth went on to conduct the Johnston High School Orchestra as well as teach elementary and middle school ensembles before relocating to New York City where he began focusing on violin and viola.  He currently is a composer and violist of the Chelsea Symphony and a board member of the Queer Urban Orchestra in which he plays cello and percussion.
His music for orchestras can be heard at
