Sara Landeau is a guitarist, bassist, drummer, music director, teacher, producer, and band coach in NYC. After receiving a B.A. in Art History from Columbia University in 2002, Sara attended The Juilliard School and The New School. There she studied audio technology, classical guitar, theory, ear training, percussion, and transcription. She is completing an MFA in Sonic Arts from Brooklyn College with a focus on electric guitar studies. Since 2005, she has been band coach and guitar teacher for the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls and Ladies Rock Camp in Brooklyn.

Sara is the guitarist for The Julie Ruin, a chart-topping band signed to Hardly Art featuring Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill fame and Kenny Mellman of Kiki & Herb.

Many of Sara’s younger students have gone on to attend top music schools and have become professional touring musicians. She also specializes in working with adults learning an instrument for the first time. Sara often teaches adult and child actors music for stage and screen work.

Her style of teaching is always patient, creative, and tailored to each student’s needs. She believes in teaching the fundamentals and ideas behind why songs work in order to build a solid foundation. The student is continuously encouraged to pursue any musical styles that they love. Sara is a lifelong learner and believes music education should be for everyone.
