Private Lessons at Brooklyn Music School (BMS)

about private lessons at BMS

BMS provides students at all ages and levels of experience to work in a highly tailored, one-on-one environment for guitar, drums, strings, voice, and wind instruments with world class instructors across a range of musical traditions. We strongly recommend that children start private lessons at age 5.  See our Early Childhood Music Education page for our various opportunities for children under 5 years of age. Our faculty has trained at the most respected music schools and conservatories in the world and brings a wealth of professional performance experience that informs their teaching and technique. Private lessons allow our teachers to tailor their instruction to the needs, abilities, and learning style of the individual student.

BMS has a performance-based approach to learning. We believe that performing aids in cultivating in our students growth. We excel in providing our students the opportunities to perform in many of our scheduled recitals in the BMS theatre throughout the year as well as the opportunity to perform at unique opportunities around the NYC area.

The first lesson is paid up-front, with no commitment to enroll for the term.  It is designed to be an introduction between the teacher and student.

If the student feels it is a good fit, we ask that the student commits to weekly lessons for the Academic Year: September 2019 - June 2020.

All missed lessons due to the teacher's absence, if substitute teacher is not available, will be made up. Payments MUST be made for all missed lessons. There is NO refund for classes missed because of a student absence.

As a courtesy to the teacher, we ask you call the school in advance when a student will be absent. ONE excused absence, for which the teacher or BMS has been notified 24 hours in advance, is allowed per quarter and will be made up by the teacher. An unexcused absence, one in which the school has not been given 24 hours' notice, WILL NOT be made up. An absence due to a last minute emergency or illness may be made up at the teacher’s discretion.

The Brooklyn Music School reserves the right to discontinue the enrollment of any student who:

  • misses THREE (3) consecutive lessons without notification;

  • has a pattern of absences,

  • is consistently tardy,

  • or is disrespectful of BMS Faculty and Staff.
