BOW Salon Series: Heroines and Heros

The Brooklyn Music School (BMS) is proud to present to Brooklyn Opera Works' Salon Series!

The history of salons span throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, bringing composers, musicians and lovers of music into an intimate setting. We are building an inclusive community based on this tradition where music professionals, amateurs and audience members are welcome. Each salon will have a theme such as mythology, war, heroism, a live performance, and a shared listening of recordings of the greats. There will also be wine for all to enjoy, with a fun discussion in the later half. Come join us and stay tuned for other exciting events that Brooklyn Opera Works has coming up.

The first salon will focus on two bold characters of opera; Norma, the tragic hero, and Nemorino, the unlikely hero. What makes an operatic hero? How does their love and compassion elevate them into hero status?

Bring your friends and any other opera lovers!

BMS has a long history of staged opera: Renowned mezzo soprano Risé Stevens began her career BMS and the Brooklyn Music School Playhouse was also the home of the Little Theatre Opera company in the 1920’s.
