"Under the Brooklyn Moon" is a gala fundraiser benefitting the Brooklyn Music School. A play on Prince's directorial debut film, this event aims to raise awareness and support for BMS' continued contribution to the Brooklyn community through performing arts education. The Gala will be held Tuesday, June 6th, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Brooklyn Historical Society.
The Brooklyn Music School is proud to present the 4th annual Valentine's concert entitled Stormy Weather: Songs of Love and Despair. This emotionally charged program features soul stirring ballads and some of BMS's most talented vocalists. A great pre-Valentine's date night for those in love, or chance to commiserate about love lost and heartbreak. BMS singers will perform songs from Wicked, Phantom of the Opera and popular tunes by John Legend, Fiona Apple and Leonard Cohen. Don't miss this exciting concert! $8 in advance or $10 at the door.
Tickets also available for VIP reception with the performers after the show with refreshments.
The Brooklyn Music School is proud to present Songs of Spirit and Unity: A Martin Luther King Jr. tribute concert featuring guest vocalist Ms. Karen Bernod.
Song was among the most important unifying and rallying factors in Dr. King’s movement of peace and equality, a movement that has provided many Brooklyn Music School students and faculty with the opportunity to pursue music and other skills at all levels.
About Ms. Karen Bernod
Ms. Karen Bernod is an R&B, soul, neo soul, and jazz singer from Brooklyn. Ms. Bernod began her career by singing background vocals for House artists. This eventually lead to the opportunity for her to work on projects with Mr. Paul Simon, RuPaul, Ms. Whitney Houston, Mr. Luther Vandross, Ms. Stephanie Mills, and many other artists. Ms. Bernod then traveled abroad to record and tour with Ms. Erykah Badu and D’Angelo, and Incognito, and she has worked extensively with Ms. Chaka Khan, Ms. Mary J. Blige, and Ms. Martha Redbone. In addition to all of her collaborative endeavors, Ms. Bernod has released three records as a soloist and remains an important figure in the community through her activist and volunteer work.
