BMS ORCHESTRA

Brooklyn Music School Orchestra

Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. for $15 per session or free to registered students taking private lessons.

Orchestra allows developing musicians, ages 6 to 12 years old, to cultivate their listening and ensemble skills to a high level in a fun environment.   Students learn how to improve intonation and musicality as well as discover new and exciting repertory unique to orchestras while using teamwork and communication to refine their work.  This ensemble is open (and free) to any regular student at BMS.  Although the core of the orchestra is strings, spots are available to any interested student with basic sight-reading skills.

Rock EnsembleS

Fridays at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for $15 per session or free to registered students taking private lessons.

Brooklyn Music School believes that performance is one of the main goals behind learning to play an instrument and we offer a rich menu of opportunities for students to further cultivate their learning by joining one of our Rock Ensembles.

The Rock ensembles are one hour classes that meet once a week and are open to players beyond the beginning level. The ensembles are a great opportunity for our students to see the results of their learning and practice through collaboration and group performances.  BMS provides our ensembles with numerous unique showcase opportunities in our theatre and around the NYC area throughout the year.

Students will learn essential performance techniques, including:

  • Performing as a group member
  • Establishing a repertoire of songs
  • Mastering the techniques of performing in a live situation
  • Understanding their instrument in a live performance setting
  • Music theory
  • Music appreciation
  • Sight reading

Adult Jazz Ensemble

Saturdays at 1:30 p.m. for $15 per session or free to registered students taking private lessons.

The adult jazz ensemble is a unique opportunity for avocational players to develop skills in jazz. 

The ensemble focuses on a repertoire of jazz standards to explore concepts in ensemble playing, arranging, and improvisation. As a primary goal for all Brooklyn Music School ensembles, the adult jazz ensemble with present a culminating recital at the end of the course.

Over the course of this program you will learn to:

  • Develop a repertoire of jazz standards
  • Play as part of an ensemble
  • Improvise

Prerequisite: participants must play an instrument.

Junior JAZZ ENSEMBLE

Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. for $15 per session or free to registered students taking private lessons.

The junior jazz ensemble enables younger students who have already mastered the basic of playing an instrument to learn the skills required to improvise  performing in various jazz idioms. 

The ensemble focuses on a repertoire of jazz standards to explore concepts in ensemble playing, arranging, and improvisation. As a primary goal for all Brooklyn Music School ensembles, the adult jazz ensemble with present a culminating recital at the end of the course.

CHOIR ON FIRE

BMS Choir on Fire

Saturdays at 3:00 p.m. for $15 per session or free to registered students taking private lessons.

Choir On Fire infuses the harmonies and structure of a traditional choir and mixes in contemporary B & B and pop hits to make a fun fast-paced class with regular performance opportunities.
