Summer Vocal Arts Junior Stage Director and Choreographer
Marie Zvosec is a graduate of the Dancers’ Studio at Oberlin, under the direction of Denise Gula Weller, the North Carolina School of the Arts, and The Juilliard School (B.F.A.).
Marie has been seen performing with, among many others, Buglisi Dance Theatre, TAKE Dance, Douglas Dunn and Dancers, Hilary Easton + Company, DOORKNOB Company with Elisabeth Motley and Shannon Gillen, Doug Elkins and Friends, Juri Onuki, Bennyroyce Dance, and at the Metropolitan Opera in Zhang Yimou’s production of Tan Dun’s The First Emperor and Mark Morris’ production of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice.Choreographic commissions for Ohio Dance Theatre include Jane and Cassandra Are Sisters, Hail, Saints, and three story ballets: Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and The Fairy Forest, all with libretti by playwright Jonathan Wilhelm.
Additionally, she has choreographed for Moxie Contemporary Ballet, Springboard Danse Montréal, Blackbird/Oiseau Noir Dance, Bennyroyce Dance, and at Randolph College as a Helen McGehee Visiting Artist. For Lyric Opera Cleveland, Marie choreographed productions of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Patience and The Mikado. Marie has served as répétiter for Jacqulyn Buglisi’s works restaged at Ailey/Fordham and Marymount Manhattan College, and as Choreographic Associate for Bennyroyce Royon’s works created for Marymount Manhattan College and Point Park University. She was a Performer in Transition through the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the Kennedy Center in partnership with BAM’s Professional Development Program.
She completed the National Dance Institute’s Teaching Artist Training on full scholarship and subsequently served as Brooklyn Music School’s Chair of Dance. For Summer Vocal Arts, Marie has been resident director/choreographer since 2014, creating new productions of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, A Brooklyn Cabaret, Love in Any Language, and Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas.
