Other Policies

Absences from individual lessons
If the student is unable to attend a lesson, the school must be notified 24 hours in advance. Missed lessons due to the teacher's absence will be made up. Only one excused absence, for which the teacher or BMS has been notified 24 hours in advance, is allowed per semester and will be made up by the teacher during appointed make-up week. An unexcused absence is one in which the school has not been given 24 hours' notice and will therefore not be made up. If a student is absent for three consecutive weeks, the student will be withdrawn under the refund policy.

Course Cancellation
The Brooklyn Music School reserves the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment. After four weeks, students must get permission from the instructor to join a class. If a class is cancelled, the student will receive a prorated refund for all the remaining sessions. If the student is enrolled in classes only, registration and installment fees will be refunded. Refunds take six to eight weeks to process.
If a student does not attend 3 classes in a row, they will be automatically dropped.

Refunds
All withdrawal requests must be submitted in writing to the Registration Office. No refunds will be given after the fourth week of lessons or classes. Students or parents requesting withdrawals before then will be charged prorated tuition for completed sessions (including absences) plus 20% of the total contracted tuition. If a student withdraws prior to the start of the semester, the student will be charged 10% of the contracted tuition. Registration and Installment fees (if any) are not refundable. Additionally, students who are paying in installments and withdraw are responsible for the remaining balance on their account. Refunds take six to eight weeks to process.

Personal Property
The Brooklyn Music School is not responsible for personal property either lost or damaged on our premises.

Materials
The student is responsible for providing his or her own music books, sheet music, instruments, and materials, except where fees have been charged along with the class fee.
