MUSIC FOR TOTS (3-4 yrs old)
Is my child too young to start in a music class? Not with the Music for Tots! The Brooklyn Music School's Music for Tots group meets Saturday mornings at 10 AM. Music for Tots is a super fun music and movement class that incorporates singing, movement, rhythm/percussion, and pre-piano skills to provide an overview on the creation of music. The age-appropriate class is designed for 3-4 year old students to build a foundation in basic music concepts as they are introduced to a variety of instruments. Benefits of early childhood music education include improved listening skills, reading skills, positive creative expression, and most importantly a joy-filled good time! $400 for 18 week semester, plus $30 registration fee. BMS ORCHESTRA
All students that can read music are encouraged to join the orchestra. Starting with the standard classical music literature, the orchestra delves into a wide repertoire with arrangements catering the most advanced to the primary beginner. Class meets on Saturdays at 2:45 PM, $400 per 18-week semester, plus $30 registration fee. This class is FREE for BMS students currently enrolled in private lessons!
BMS JAZZ IMPROVISATION ENSEMBLE
Perfect for the student ready to exercise their technical, reading, and theoretical abilities, the workshop will use Jazz Standards, Blues, and Bebop in a comfortable, low pressure environment to develop the art of improvisation in the jazz setting. Students will get to work with a rhythm section and will not only study the theoretical and technical concepts of jazz, but also listen to recordings and one another. This class runs Saturdays at 1:30PM, $400 per 18-week semester, plus $30 registration fee.
ROCK N’ ROLL ENSEMBLE
Want to be a rock star? Of course you do! Starting with simple blues progressions, the BMS rock ensemble will not only learn classic rock tunes, but will also work on modern rock tunes of today. Open to qualified guitarists, bassists, drummers, vocalists, keyboardist, and other instruments commonly found in rock music. This class meets Saturdays at 4 PM, $400 per 18-week semester, plus $30 registration fee.
OPERA WORKSHOP
Qualified singers will explore role development and stage deportment in opera scenes in both English and in foreign languages with the goal of a performing a Operetta at the end of the school year.
CHILD & ADULT CHOIRS
Vocal training in this chorus focuses on the development of pitch control, beauty of tone, breath control and posture. Musicianship skills such as sight singing and music notation are introduced. Chorus members master songs of different cultures and styles.
HOMESCHOOL GROUP SESSIONS - INTRODUCTION TO INSTRUMENTS
Prior to deciding on which instruments to study, students of all ages are introduced to the instruments of the orchestra taught at BMS. Each class session will involve an introduction to a particular instrument and a live demonstration by our accomplished BMS faculty.
