Yasmar Cruz

Originally from Puerto Rico, Yasmar began her formation in dance since early years.  She was admitted to the Interdisciplinary Studies Program of the University of Puerto Rico, where she obtained a bachelors degree in Performing Arts and Public Relations.   She trained in Florida International University in variety of dance styles such as, tap, ballroom, west-African, modern, Afro-Caribbean, and Spanish.  In Miami, she had the opportunity to perform with renowned artist and choreographers, such as the New Yorker Janis Brenner, and became a member of Delou African Dance Ensemble.  After living in Florida, Yasmar traveled throughout Europe to get acquainted with the artistic currents of Italy, France, Austria and Spain.  Back to Puerto Rico, she incorporates Danzartes Inc (an arts company) and presents her first musical production Dancing Souls, receiving outstanding approval for this project, which she directed, choreographed and produced.

Besides performing for professional dance companies, Yasmar has taught for many schools and dance studios, including the Arthur Murray Dance Studio franchise and Professional Formal Dance.  Her artistic diversity has gotten her roles on films such as Dirty Dancing II Havana NightsSalsa Dance (British Broadcast Corporation documentary), Una Historia Común (Isla Films Productions), Dix Chanson d’amour et un Poeme (French Recital) and multiple artistic productions in Puerto Rico, Miami and New York City.  Yasmar is fluent in Spanish, English and French and has published a short stories and poetry.  Actually, she is the director of Danzartes Inc, adjunct lecturer at Boricua College in NYC, a member of Danza Fiesta; a New York based dance and theatre company, and teaches dance workshops in New York City and Puerto Rico.
